M.R. James Board Game

Explore the world of M.R. James.

M.R. James redefined the ghost story for the twentieth century. Abandoning gothic clichés and using more realistic contemporary settings. James was a medievalist scholar and his antiquarian interests fed into his fiction. Accordingly, he is known as the originator of the "antiquarian ghost story".

Many of the tales were written as Christmas Eve entertainments and read aloud to friends. They went on to be published in several volumes and heavily influenced writers like H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Stephen King, Ramsey Campbell, John Betjeman, and others.

This game is a tribute to M.R. James’ work.

A work in progress
